Virginia State Mandate Tax preparers that are approved by the IRS will be able to electronically file with the State of Virginia. There is no separate application process for Virginia. If a tax professional prepares 50 individual income tax returns for previous filing season, he/she is required to file all returns electronically.

    All taxpayers are granted a six-month extension of time to file their income tax return. Form 760PI, Automatic Extension Payment, only needs to be filed when there in an amount due.

  • Electronic Filing:
    Virginia accepts Resident, Nonresident, and Part-year returns electronically. They can be transmitted with the Federal return or transmitted as a State only return. Virginia no longer requires the preparer to mail in form VA-8453. If using the Practitioner PIN, form VA-8879 will be used. These documents will be filed by the preparer for a period of three years.
