  • Extension Mailing Address:
    Vermont follows the IRS in allowing an automatic six-month extension of time to file the individual income tax return. You must file either VT form IN-151 or a copy of the Federal extension return by the original due date of the return. ?Vermont Form IN-151 or a copy of IRS Form 4868 must be received by the Vermont Dept. of Taxes by April 15th or a $50.00 late filing fee will be issued even when no tax is due on the return. NOTE: An extension of time only allows more time to file the return. It does not extend the time to pay tax. Interest and penalty will accrue on tax due from the original due date of the return to the time of payment.

    The Vermont e-file program: ? Supports federal/state (piggyback) filing and state-only filing through the Federal/State Electronic Filing Program. ? Allows amended and prior year returns. ? Allows extensions (IN-151). ? Allows Homestead Declaration and Property Tax Adjustment Claim (HS-122). Exclusions from electronic filing. The following forms may not be electronically filed: estimated payments (IN-114), payment voucher (IN-116), Form HS-122W, Notice to Withdraw Vermont Homestead Declaration and/or Property Tax Adjustment, or applications for telephone lifeline and VPharm.
