State Mandate
Tax preparers that are approved by the IRS will be able to electronically file with the State of Virginia. There is no separate application process for Virginia. If a tax professional prepares 100 or more individual income tax returns he/she is required to file electronically.

Extension Mailing Address:
All taxpayers and granted a six-month extension of time to file their income tax return. Form 760PI, Automatic Extension Payment, only needs to be filed when there in an amount due.

Electronic Filing:
Virginia accepts Resident, Nonresident, and Part-year returns electronically. They can be transmitted with the Federal return or transmitted as a State only return.
Virginia no longer requires the preparer to mail in form VA-8453. If using the Practitioner PIN, form VA-8879 will be used. These documents will be filed by the preparer for a period of three years.
